You just faced away from the stove (to talk on the phone, reply to a message on social networks or anything else), as your pan got burnt. You should not worry thinking how to clean it – here you will learn everything.

Top 10 ways to clean the bottom of your pans and pots

Salt

If you want to clean the burnt pan, you should not put away for later.

  1. Fill the pan or pot from stainless steel and aluminum with cold water, leave for a short time, pour the water out, and put a sufficient amount of salt. After 2-3 hours, the burnt-on food is easily cleaned with a kitchen sponge. Do not add salt in cold water as dark spots can appear and they are very difficult to get rid of.
  2. Do not pour cold water into an enamel pot immediately, it is necessary to cool it down or the enamel can be damaged under the influence of the cold water. Pour the salt on the bottom of the pot, leave for a couple-three hours, and then wash the pan with hot water. If the burning is too strong, you will likely have to repeat the procedure.

Boiling

  1. At the bottom of a metal pot, pour hot water, add a tablespoon of baking soda. Leave it for 30-50 minutes, then put on fire, boil for 5-10 minutes, remove from heat. After the pot cools down, just wash it to remove the food leftovers.
  2. To clean the burnt-enamel pot, make a salt solution: take 5-6 tbsp of salt per a liter of water. Pour it into the pot and boil for 40-45 minutes. The burnt food will be cleaned off the sides and bottom of the pan.

Activated charcoal

This method is applicable for both enameled and aluminum pots as well as stainless steel ones. It is particularly effective for pots with burnt milk. Take a few pieces of charcoal tablets and disperse them to powder. Pour it in the cookware and leave thus for 30-40 minutes. Add cold water and leave for another 30 min. After this, the pot is easily washed with any dishwashing detergent.

Vinegar

Pour some vinegar (citric acid, fresh lemon juice) on the burnt surface. Cover it and leave for about two hours. Then wash the pan with a detergent. Vinegar is especially perfect for aluminum pans. Thanks to vinegar, aluminum pots are cleaned not only from the burnt-on food but also from dark stains.

Whey

This common product can help to get rid of the burnt food in an enamel pot, aluminum, and stainless pan. Pour some whey into the pot for 1- 2 cm above the level of the burnt place and leave for 24 hours. Then drain the whey and wash the pan with a detergent. Thanks to the acids in the whey, the main pieces of burnt food will easily move from the surface of the pan.

Soda

If not only the bottom of the pot but also its outer surface is burnt, a good way to get rid of the burnt products is boiling in a soda solution. Important: remove the plastic parts of the pot.

  1. Put the burnt pan into a saucepan that is much larger than the burnt one.
  2. Pour the solution prepared from 5-6 liters of water and a pack of baking soda (0.5 kg). The water should cover the pot for 2-3 cm.
  3. After boiling, simmer the burnt cookware for about two more hours.
  4. Then, turn off the gas and wait for the pan to cool down.
  5. Take the cleaned pan and wash it. You can apply the method with an enameled, aluminum and stainless steel pots.

Soda-salt mixture

  1. To clean the burnt pan made of aluminum and coated with enamel, mix equal amounts of baking soda and salt.
  2. Pour this mixture on the bottom and add the warm water to make a paste.
  3. Cover the pan with a lid and leave it for 24 hours.
  4. A day after, change the soda-salt mixture and add water so as to cover the burnt place.
  5. Place the pot on the stove, boil and leave to simmer on low heat for another half hour.
  6. Wait until the pot cools down and wash it.
For stainless steel pans, use this method with caution to avoid the appearance of dark spots. It is better to replace the salt and soda with vinegar and boil the solution for about 10 minutes.

Soap

Pour hot water into a pan made of stainless steel, aluminum or enamel, add the liquid soap or dishwashing detergent and mix. Boil for 15-20 minutes. After cooling the pot, clean it with a kitchen sponge. This method is effective if the burn marks are not very pronounced.

Special means

Important Tips

  1. The sooner you start cleaning your favorite dishes, the better the result is. The dishes with burnt food can suffer from yellow spots if you put the cleaning away for later.
  2. Do not wash an enamel or aluminum pan with a wire brush as you can spoil the dish.
  3. The Teflon-coated cookware needs to be soaked and boiled with non-alkaline solutions. Never clean it with abrasive powders and detergents.

Proper care of the cast-iron frying pans

Proper care and cleaning methods help to keep your cast iron cookware in good form. If you do not pay proper attention to the oil tat remains on the surface after cooking, then over time it can accumulate. Fat deposits on cast iron cookware acts attract dirt and dust to the surface like a magnet. Thorough cleaning and proper wiping prevent the appearance of stubborn grease stains on the surface of the dish, but if you still find grease stains on your pan, you can remove them following the simple rules.

How to clean the cast-iron pan

Sand

Put the pan with sand inside on a slow fire for about 3 hours (it depends on the degree of the contamination). The good news – you need not clean and scrape; the bad one – the smell during the cleaning will not please you. The burnt food will be easily removed when you just tap the pan after cleaning.

Vinegar

You can clean the cast iron utensils with the solution made of 1 part of vinegar and 3 parts of water. Put the pan with the liquid on low heat for 3-4 hours. Monitor the water level.

Remember to open the window and turn on the hood, otherwise, you can get acetic poisoning.

In addition, the cast iron cookware will smell vinegar. Boil the soda solution in the treated pan.

Activated carbon

Ground the tablets and sprinkle the wet cast-iron cookware. An hour later, you can clean it with any dishwashing detergent.

Boiling

You can boil the pan in a large tank of water where you add a large bar of soap, 500 grams of soda, and 100 g of glue (silica). After 30 minutes of boiling, it will be very easy to clean the pan.

Metal sponge

If you choose this method, then prepare a towel to wipe the sweat from your forehead. The cleaning will require a great effort. Only a cast-iron cookware can endure such treatment.

Soap

If the burnt-on food is not willing to leave the dish surface, then try half a bar of soap into and boiling water. Put the pan on fire. Half an hour of a soapy bath and the dishes will again shine.

How to clean pots and pans outside

There are cases when the pans burn not only inside but also outside. In this case, the easiest way is to clean them with detergent. Take 1 tbsp of the detergent per 1 liter of water. In addition, you will need a fairly large container (bucket or a bowl) where you can put the burnt pan. Fill the chosen bucket with the prepared soap solution, boil it, and then immerse your pot there. Simmer the solution for at least an hour, then rinse it thoroughly, first with common water, and then with a boiling water to get rid of the smell of the detergent.

Clean both inside and outside of the kitchen utensils after each use, and then you will not need to take much effort to get rid of stubborn stains.
